...will depend ultimately upon the modders.
Stardock can tweak and balance their vision of Elemental, but let's face it, after digging through all the threads of everyone's ideas of what this game should be is really just a testament to how different of a game everyone wants. There's a tug of war of ideas going on. Stardock will never be able to please everyone. They should just stick to their own vision, which is enjoyable and fun, and just balance and tweak it. But even then, eventually it will not please.
What we need are tools of our own. Want a Dragonlance setting? Great, give the modder's the ability to add custom models with the click of a button. Want a Master of Magic mod? Nice, how bout and editor that edits spells, simply by pulling down certain menues and adding states, effects, inputting a few numer ranges. Same with a better unit designer. I want to add abilities to new imported monster models. And quests? How many modders have years of fantasy books, games, movies, etc., to pull from for quest ideas? I looked at how to make a quest currently. No thanks.
But let's face it, not everyone knows how to edit xml or even what that is but have a ton of ideas of what 'their' vision of Elemental should be. There are a few tools that came with Elemental and they're ok at what they do but to someone who doesnt know how to edit xml, like myself, its just props Im creating. I can create a tile. Great. Now what? Where do I go from there? Create a spell? How? Will I break the game? I just don't wanna fool with it. We need better tools.
I have a ton of ideas of what 'I' want elemental to be, just like many others have their vision, but I wont get to experience that because I can't get into modding this game like I want. That's frustrating.
Neverwinter Nights came out years ago but still has a better modding community than Neverwinter Nights 2 because its modding editor was so easy to use and Neverwinter Nights 2 was too techinical and complicated, ie.*, unaccessable.
It would be nice to be able to mod everything in this game from custom city buildings, spells, tech levels, units, custom abilities, magic, etc., without the hassle of digging and coding, etc.
Theres too many visions and ideas out there for this game not to.
The mods can and will carry this game for years
