I'm about half-way through it right now. It's not horrible like some people make it out to be, but it isn't Pulitzer material either. Some of the grammar and punctuation is definitely weird, but as long as you're not some sort of grammar nazi
you can probably enjoy the book. The story isn't super original, but it isn't too bad either. If I were to compare it to, say, all of the Star Wars novels, I'd say it's better than most of them, but not as good as the Timothy Zahn ones (they're similar genre, books based of existing IP's) if that helps at all.
And since this is certainly going to come up, I'll address it now. It's about a racist as the Lord of the Rings. If you think the LOTR is full of racist undertones, you'll think the same thing about Destiny's Embers (I will think you're a nutjob for thinking LOTR is racist, but hey, you're entitled to your opinion and I'm entitled to mine
).
