Can't see your equipped items when buying equipment?

When I am buying equipment at the item hut, I can't see my currently equipped items - only the extra stuff not equipped.  Is it possible? 

 

When you mouse over a helmet you are thinking about buying in the shop, it should show you what helmet you have currently equipped like other games...

Only the Sov. and recruited heroes can buy equipment from the shop. Allowing to buy multiple similar items is the easy way to equip other army units (NPCs).

Except that it doesn't work, at least not for me.  If I buy a new weapon in the shop, I can trade it to a non-hero unit but it won't let him equip it.  He can only use the weapon he was trained with.
