Elemental has to be one of the greatest game releases in years. Why? The digital line.
The infamous game nerd Tycho has pontificated on his love for lines.
The Elemental release IRC chat room was better than any early-adopter line I’ve ever known. It was hours and hours of PC gaming nerds talking about PC gaming nerd stuff: old-school games, new-school games, vampires, proper methods of urination, etcetera, etcetera. I would even proclaim that the Elemental pre-release of Gold++ to beta-testers and pre-orders was the PC-Gaming-Nerd event of the millennium.
Then last night during a sort of after-party event, a smaller, yet equally vociferous, group huddled in IRC waiting for the Day-0 patch. In the history of mankind, the word “Frogboy” has never been uttered so many times in a single hour.
Elemental has bugs; Elemental has features that need improving. Despite this, Elemental had the single most enjoyable game launch since the original Starcraft. What anyone may say about the game, the launch was bloody awesome.
