No digital deluxe edition?

I'd love to have some bonus content included in my digital-only purchase. Something like the making of Elemental, soundtrack, digital versions of artbook, Bradley Wardell's best-selling novel (coff, coff), maps, among other possibilities.

The boxed limited edition is nice but in my case the less physical stuff I have, the better, especially with games. Others simply like everything digital.

So, how about it? It's still some extra bucks that you guys would be able to get from suck... I mean... fans of the game. Also, since there's no boxed version release in Europe (if I'm not mistaken), this would come as an added benefit.

But honestly, the whole point of Elemental: LE was to give genuine product, although you do make a point of the soundtrack. Assuming that the soundtrack is not already available, perhaps it will be released with an expansion.

As for a "making of" video ... who is to say?

But ... it seems that most Digital Deluxe versions of games have "additional in-game content/bonuses" that the rest of the players won't have. That sort of DD is very VERY bad.

As for the other stuff, if it exists I bet it will become available at some point.

So... you're saying that digital deluxe editions are bad but special boxed editions are good? Doesn't that depend on content? Stardock has a digital distribution platform. I'm merely suggesting to put that to good use by making a worthwhile DDE. As I said before, gamers like this (generally speaking) and especially so if it's done well.

I think he means that with a digital deluxe you get in game stuff that makes your game different from a "standard" version.

The special boxed edition gives you cool stuff to play with but the same game.

It's up to the developer/publisher to add whatever they want. Who says that a DDE needs to have exclusive in-game content? Why is in-game content a bad thing as long as that option could be purchased by anyone willing to do so?

I'm used to digital content to the point of preferring it over a boxed version. I also like special editions (as long as they are worthwhile), just not in the traditional way.

What's my point with this thread: when it comes to extra goodies, I'm not seeing my kind of crowd represented in Stardock's latest greatest game. Wouldn't Impulse be the perfect platform for such?

The point is that usually extra digital content = lockdown on modding.

We will see if Civ V will ever have any useful mods in the coming years.

beyond all that, though ... most additional content is for "special pre-order versions" just as a gimmick to scrape in a few pre-orders at the expense of giving them an "unfair advantage" or "paid for" advantage.

Same goes for if there is a micro-payment system (like most "free" browser games)

At its core, its the same as WoW gold farming.

Extra out of game content is ok (soundtracks and whatever). However I want the complete version of the game itself, no matter what version I buy. I don't want to feel like I need to buy 2 versions of the game to get all the content, or have to make many small additional purchases over time. Singleplayer games are good because they can be completed; if there are extra bits and pieces this satisfaction isn't possible and I would rather put my time into a primarily multiplayer game. Expansion packs are fine though

- Digital map from Destiny's Embers

Don't like the name Digital Deluxe Edition? How about Digital Special Edition? Whatever. It would be nice to have something extra beyond the traditional boxed stuff.

Actually, since I've "gone digital" too, I'd like to have such an option. Mostly for the Artbook.

I suppose digital Artwork, and digital posters *could* be included as DLC ... but you can probably get Digital Soundtrack + Digital Map from the game itself. After all, the map was made IN GAME ... and you probably have full access to all of the sound files.

As for a "making of" video ... who knows?

I actually like the idea of a digital edition.

Not an unfair advantage or special items etc.

but just having a digital copy of book and map sound track etc. would be nice.
