As we have no business presence in Europe, we have to work through Euro publishers/distributors, and we wind up earning one or two euros per box (for reference, NA retail makes around $30 per box). It's just not worth doing when we can get the same return on 1/50th the DD sales.

Not so: you have less localization required for Russia versus what is required for Europe. And you can bet that each country has its own regulation about how to sold things with all needed legal stuff for customers rights.

Also, the exchange rate between USD and EUR may be annoying for a game produced in USD that must take into account localization/manufacturing/distribution costs in EUR.

And the nature of Stardock policy for rewarding customers with frequent and meaningful free updates doesn't play very well for localized versions ...

I suppose that Elemental is to follow a similar path which would mean that anyone hoping for expansions in retail is going to be dissapointed and may as well stick to digital all the way.

@Wintersong: I have the boxed edition of Sins' Trinity Edition.  IIRC I've previously owned boxed versions of GC2's expansions.

Now I have to deal with Impulse and it will cost me more money than I would normally pay for a game.  Given that I'm dealing direct with the guys making it - there are no shipping costs or B&M stores taking their cut - that seems like a damn cheek. 

Not only that but it costs the same for a pure DD as it does for getting the box in the USA.

IMHO the normal version should have only be available via download with the only physical version being the Collectors.

I'm tired of seeing games cost 20% or more on DD than I can buy from a shop.  I have a friend who recently bought Sup Com 2 from steam for £8.50 because it was on offer.  His questionable choice in RTS games aside he could have bought it for less from an online shop.
