It's just that if you only *need* the client for installing/updating, why couldn't there just be some web interface we log into to get access to the installers which we just download, etc. Also it seems like I could use impulse to install the game(s) on one machine and then just copy the install directory to another machine and circumvent the client entirely.
that is called impulseanywhere(but it is still a client program that will download the programs/updates of transfer to another machine), and by reports is designed to do just that. personally I have not used it so can not comment or advise upon it.

That's what I mean, you just download the installers yourself without the client, I'm still confused as to just why it says on the impulse anywhere site that the client is required. On Sins I only play singleplayer, and I already registered my game on this site before impulse came out. Couldn't I just buy the expansions and then download them this way?
Sorry for all of the questions, if there's a resource somewhere which explains all of this feel free to point me to it. I'd just like to know the details of just how this is set up and the information that I've found doesn't answer my questions.
