I am not sure if Windows XP 64 is a supported system for Elemental. It is clearly not supported for Impulse.

XP 64 is an unsupported OS, for both Elemental and Impulse.

I really can't figure out why people run that on a gaming machine, it was only intended for use by driver developers and in high end computing situations that needed the extra RAM capacity in a client OS before Vista came out. Microsoft doesn't even really support it anymore now that there won't be new service packs for Windows Server 2003 (which is the same code that XP 64 is based on).

I had no idea about that poll, either.  Could we humbly request to get a notice about an important poll like this in the Developers' Journal?

After Z4, I imagine things should be pretty stable.  How exciting!

I missed the poll as well.   But while I haven't run into any CTD's I don't mind another beta 1z to fix the problems for others before we go into Beta 2.

I saw the poll and voted no since I still CTD and freeze a bit to much. I like how Brad isn't going to give us old school XP users the short end of the stick. At any rate in retrospect you should always have N+1 Betas and this is Elemental's +1.

I also missed the pole and had no idea that poles were even being displayed there.

Last message I saw from Stardock was an active plan for providing a 64Bit version of Elemental.  There was a financial cost from Intel which generated a strong belief no 64Bit version would be made available, yet last I saw Stardock found a method around the extreme financial barrier.

Vista has the same RAM limitation as XP unless its the 64Bit version.

Very very very large maps such as those which can be made with CIV_4 need the high end computing situations using the extra RAM capacity.  It's the same reason why Stardock is interested with providing support for a 64Bit version because the map sizes won't be limited as with the 32Bit version.

So now you know why some people run that on a gaming machine.

It is in order since I keep getting a white screen at anti-aliasing x4 and x8, x2 will cause a crash to desktop quite often.

XP-64 is unsupported. Emphasizing the important part. Vista 64 and Win7 64 will be supported once the 64 bit version is out. XP 64 is not and will not.

Once again, XP 64. These reasons apply to consumer versions of Windows, like Vista 64 and Win 7 64. XP 64 was an extremely limited release intended for very specific professional usage scenarios, and for driver writers to have something to start working with before Vista. It was never pushed or intended for home use, and support was largely discontinued pretty quickly (officially it was along with normal XP, but normal XP was really better about being supported).

For various reasons, some people wound up with XP 64 on gaming machines, but that's a usage situation that is pretty oddball and not guaranteed to work.

Absolutely, considering that Microsoft terminated OEM reseller version availability back in 2008 and system builder availability in 2009.

I also missed the poll. I tend to do most forum reading from the Sins site since it is reasonably well organized and the developer journals rise to the top making it easy to find the new threads. The forum native to Impulse is horrible and I generally avoid it unless looking up issues related to other developers. Haven't visited the official Elemental site in months, but now I see there is a need to. That said, bring on V 1Z4 and let the testing renew. I still experienced the occassional CTD with V 1Z3 but save games were stable enough to continue on... Hopefully, the newest patches will address the numerous previously reported bugs as well as help out those still trapped with the XP experience.
