Meh,
Lists are great I guess, but I wouldn't put GC2 in the top 100 either. The game was ridiculously easy as the AI was uttely incompetent at both tactical and strategic fleet manuvering.
The open space design doomed it.
Of course that's just an opinion. GC2 did innovate a little bit, but it didn't differentiate itself so far from the usual crop of space 4x games to make a huge impression on me. Other than that I was really dissapointed that it wasn't more challenging and so I actually deleted it from the HD after a couple months.
I have high hopes for Elemental as well, but there are bound to be concerns as well. I'm not in the beta, because I don't have the time I'd like to have, but from reading the journal entries I'm a bit frightened that perhaps the design goals have become too grand, and no matter how long it is kept in for polishing, it will never mange to fully integrate all the parts it needs to. Of course I have GC2 as my measureing stick, and I feel GC2 failed there, so perhaps I am more down on SDs development model than I should be from one data point.
*shrug* I wish the project the best, and I'll likely purchase it anyway because I appreciate what Brad and SD are trying to do with their business model, I just fear that their games ultimately don't get it quite right for me.
To each their own.
