iPad compatibility

Hello

Now the the iPad is here, i remembered that back in the days when a cloth map beta seems like the greatest invention since wemen and sliced bread Frogboy mentioned that Elemental would be able to be played on netbooks and crapy computers.

What are the chances to get an iPad version?

Honestly, I'm thinking about buying a new laptop since my current one is 5 years old and been though some tough situations and i'm thinking about buying an iPad when it be out next june and I think that "mobile" elemental to pass the time on the train or the bus is just what the doctor ordered  .

Well since it uses a Mac OS, I doubt it

 

And it'd probably have to be distributed through itunes too or something stupid. Nice idea, but probably not

 

Also, it's really just an XLL itouch... I don't see a feasable use for one. They seem like they're going to break easy

The iPad is going to use a version of the iPhone's OS, so it won't be able to run Elemental natively.  If bootcamp works with the iPad, you might be able to get it to run, assuming the hardware is strong enough.  I wouldn't hold my breath.

Shake the tablet to cause an Earthquake spell, and listen to all the screams of your victims as you do so?

But yeah, I can't see this happening.

That being said, it would be cool if persistent online games could be checked via iphone or android app somehow.    That's the kinda outlandish feature creep though that doesn't really benefit much discussing at this stage.

It wouldn't be hard for, say, Blizzard to add an App so people could buy and sell items via their iPhone.  Not sure what else you could use it for, though.

The ipad (I cringe every time I type that, a truly horrid name), it seems to me, has woefully inadequate hardware to run a game like Elemental.  Nevermind the fact that it's running the iPhone OS...

Yep... how revolutionary and magical! *cough*  I own an iPod Touch, and I really like it, but never have I thought "Gee, I wish they'd made it BIGGER!"

Not possible.  In order to run Windows, you need an x86 processor.  The iPad runs some lightweight processor specifically designed by Apple, so it won't run anything other than the iPhone OS.

It won't. The iPad uses a custom non-x86 CPU; AFAIK no desktop versions of windows are ARM compatible, and i doubt Windows Mobile will see support for an Apple-specific one any time soon.

On the other hand, various other companies will shortly be releasing new x86-based tablets which will actually be usable as standard computers, rather than being little more than scaled-up iPods.
