^^^Your are right, and im not doubting if you underestimate you lose (future marine here). Howver, they dont have the militray-industrial complex to support a wide war like we do. they have more people and yet we are still far more powerful, and their culture is ten times ours in age. Vietnam we won every battle but lost the war because we didn't have the political resolve to win. Korea is just a ? mark because even though we did contain them, we didnt gain anything either.

Not entirely true. Many smaller armies have the adopted the tactic of "hugging" the enemy so that even though they might be outnumbered or outgunned, they can still cause mass casaulties. Example: Vietnam, the Vietcong. The chinese have never fought a large scale mechanized war and have no real idea how to. Our training would beat them. It would't be easy and i apoligize if i made it sound that way, but we would win in the long run. It would even help our economy because of all the manufacturing jobs created for the war

And the last part about China and democracy. they have a massive underground democracy movement, but as you stated about Tianamen, if they came public they would be crushed. They want democracy but don't have the power to obtain it. If they were to go to war with us though and their military is occupied they could easily overthrow the communist government. And example of an action like this would be the Bolsheveks. Army occupied, cause chaos and seize power.

This is extremely important. The American people don't have the stomach for a full-scale war. America is learning anti-terrorist tactics, but China's population is so huge, America could never keep an eye on all of them.

Trying to occupying the country would be an absolute nighmare. Checking over a billion people to see if that peasant isn't a sniper or cyber hacker would be logistically impossibe. Anti-war marches in America would likely be common. The occupation would last a lifetime at least, and the American people would get sick of it.

Read my previous post. China does have defences. America's forces are overall better, but if you didn't send in groundtroops you couldn't hold down the country. Thats why the U.S occupied Japan after the beat them from the air.

The ignorance of history is astounding.  I try to find humor in it, but there is none. Strap on an M16, they can't shoot.  Try a book they can't read.  What you thought isn't relevant.

During Vietnam people HATED the war. People hate this current war as well, but not so much. These days, people are less easily sucked in by war propoganda. War is unpopular.

Everyone thought that WWI was going to be a picnic. In a new major war, many Americans would question the purpose of the war. If they hated it enough, then they would elect someone else during the election.

The American people question their government more then say, Russia. They may support the war initially, but they would likely protest as the war draws out. This applies to the West in general though.

But seriously: What all of you obviously fail to see is that China doesn't need to wage a war of troups and guns on anyone.

They'd wage a cyber and economical war on them. Face it, folks. Chinese hackers have hacked many government and DoD networks everywhere (but first and foremost in the US) already in the last couple of years. Also they have stolen and copied so much technology from everywhere all over the world that once they really make an effort they could sell stuff that any nation would like sell to export markets for half the price.

On the other hand there is hardly anything that the US really export at this time anyway, so in their case it would probably just be a cyber war...
