Hey, cut us poor US folks a wee bit of slack. We failed miserably at our last attempt to get modern with measurements, and we've only made our national government messier since then. I'm hoping to live long enough to see us calm down enough to get back to the subtler important things like ditching British Imperial units, but I'm not exactly holding my breath on account of all the blood, treasure, and bandages questions we need to address as a nation.
It would all probably have been finished long ago if most of us had needed to pass a basic physics class in high school. Until you get into calculus-dependent stuff like alternating current circuits, all you need to do to pass the tests is know your basic algebra and learn the metric unit definitions. I'll take calories over BTUs any day of the week.
