I know Windows 7 hasn't been officially released yet, but I'm a beta tester as many out there. And I don't know if this kind of problem happens on other windows versions, but on windows 7, while playing Galactrix on windowed mode, the game freezes constantly. Not only one deadly freeze, but contantly freezes for, like, 1-2 secs.
my PC is set-up with dual monitors, so playing on fullscreen is a waste. besides, I have 4 GB ram, and a GeForce 6800 GS 512MB, on a Pentium Core2Duo E7200 @ 2.53GHz - windows 7 score of 3.3 total, scored like this:
Processor: 4.3
Memory (RAM): 4.7
Graphics (Aero): 3.3
Gaming Graphics: 5.1
Primary Disk: 5.9
So, at least hardware speaking, I don't see any reason for Galactrix to keep bumping on freezes like it does. Is it a problem of Windows 7 compatibility on beta? Have you guys at Stardock tested with it? If not, do you plan to - and to release a compatibility patch upon official release? I'm using NVidia's beta driver released for Windows 7 also.
(update) thought I should write an update... when I got to play now, it worked like a charm.. for quite a long time! My guess is the "gagging" could be some problem with alternating the Galactrix window and other windows (I use simultaneaously (sp?) tweetdeck, msn, gtalk, skype and firefox). This last time I just kept playing without alternating. But then, out of nowhere, it crashed.
