How to capture asteroids in a plasma system?

One of the "planetary systems" in my game is a plasma storm, with no planet. But it has 3 asteroids. The asteroids have extractors that say they are Invulnerable and can be captured. But ... how do I capture them? Moving ships to them doesn't do anything.

certain ships can capture them (dependant on the race)
vasari scouts, advent and TEC colonizers will do the trick.

The Vasari scout has an ability to capture these neutral extractors, and the other two races use their colony frigates

I started capturing them completely by accident when playing as TEC. I had a capital ship battling NPC's one system over and left a colonizing frigate sitting in a dead system that had capture-able resource asteroids. While it was waiting for the all-clear to join the capital ship, it started capturing the resource asteroids automatically. Pretty neat.

i play advent and they can only be capped by the advents missonary vessels which are not sheilded but nice HP

They also act as wicked scouts, letting you know what's going on in a system for free and removed from danger. I have very rarely seen the AI take one of my extractors.

The specific ability is "crew extractor," just in case you are curious. I figured it'd be the colonize ability, but my mothership wouldn't make them work.
