Locks of Love

I got a haircut today and it reminded me how much better I feel when I feel I look presentable. This thought lead me to write about the Locks of Love program. A couple of years ago my hair was quite long and I asked my stylist if I could donate it. My salon works with the Locks of Love program and knew all of the requirements for donation.

I have close realtives that have struggled with hair loss and a neighbor friend who lost her's following chemo for cancer. These ladies talked about how badly they felt for children going through this problem. You can see how much healthier and happier a person looks once they have received their hair form the program.

That's fantastic - actually I saw something like that on Oprah once - not only did this teenage girl get a wig but her parents got a camper van.

We have shave for a cure - were people - prominent business men or average joes shave their heads/beards dye their hair pink/blue and raise money for the cancer foundation -- My father in law who doesn't have much hair anyway grew his hair and beard out for a few months leading up to the event.
I know someone who had been growing their hair & beard for almost 20 years who shaved everything off for this charity,

My wife did it, she had hair to her butt, cut it to her shoulders. She's six feet tall. Beautiful hair. I love the idea, humanity as it should be.

My fourteen year old donated her hair this spring. Our salon doesn't participate in the program, but she wanted to do it, so the stylist cut the hair in a ponytail and bagged it for her, then we got mailing instructions from the website and sent it out. I was so proud of her for coming up with the idea on her own.

Considering that I've been bald in the past, I can say that a wig makes a whole lot of difference. What is nice about this program is that the kids get real hair wigs, which are very different than synthetic. Synthetic break down quite quickly, but a human hair wig of shoulder length costs about $600.

I'd donate my hair if it ever got long enough to donate . Usually by the time it gets very long, chunks of it fall out. But, that's life!

A lot of the program donors are kids themselves. I think it is so nice to teach your kids to give of themselves things that they might take for granted.

I cut about a foot and a half off a couple months back, and gave it to locks of love. Two of my friends also just did this. It's a good feeling.

I like that organization but my hair grows so slowly ( Appox 3 inches a year ) I can't grow it to donate, unless I want to wait for 5 years.
