A Strange Thought (on anticipation)

This might sound a little strange, but I am looking forward to Sins Of A Solar Empire with *guarded* optimism. At least to the extent that I am not expecting it to be the second coming of Christ.

SoaSE is going to be a very good game from the looks of things... I will be very content to discover first-hand precisely how good.

I`ve just found myself mulling over the perils of over-hype and games that have disappointed some people because of it.

You can rest assured that this title will not be "over hyped" given it does not have a budget anywhere near that threshold.

What you can expect is some hardcore gamers joined by some casual ones promoting it in earnest because it is for all intents and purposes truly collaborative effort between gamers and developers. Yes the collaboration had a price of admission for the gamers but the cost was well worth it given the development and communication process.

I cant tell you how many times I wished I could have been part of the "special people" group of alpha & beta testers for some titles over the years. Thinking to myself wow if only I had the chance to address this issue in the development process -etc... That luxury alone, even if I had to pay for the game a second time, is well worth it in my opinion.

I truly believe that the development process used for this title is the way games will be developed in the future at least for PC titles if a company is serious about creating a core following and common community for a title and on the bigger scale a franchise. It is a win/win situation all around if properly managed to be sure.

How can sins be Over-hyped?
I haven't seen any halo-style massive add compaign, not have I seen whole swarms of fanboys heralding it as the second coming (by looking at screenshots)

All i've seen are the beta testers and devs actually saying what the game is like.

I cant tell you how many times I wished I could have been part of the "special people" group of alpha & beta testers for some titles over the years.

yes, from some titles, you can tell the testers must have been very "special"
