Environmental effects?

(srry dont have the beta yet just watching videos)
i think that when you are bombing a planet there should be enviromental consequences for example:
You nuke the north pole and now the planet is being drowned making it easyer for capture
or by consistently nukeing a planet you can create nuclear winter or green house effects that could kill the planets lifeforms and render it un colonize this could make the attacking player think about how he/she is going to capture the planet,
but if you are just looking to kill and destroy the planet than this could be to your advantage

This could be intersting.

It would be quite cool if we could target certain parts of the planet. Damaging certain things on it such as bombing this heavily populated continent causes the level of civic infrastructure to go down, or population loss goes down at a doubled rate. In my opinion it makes little sense that when you are bombing the ocean the planet still loses pop.

well if you bomb the ice caps the coastal citys could be destroyed

That is another idea that I like. Add strategical value to what you target, would make more sense in my opinion.

I would like planets to have cities on them, just a collection of lights, that would have to be targeted (because that's where the infrastructure is) for the planet to submit. They could be automatically targeted by the besieging ships, but it would add a little realism and strategy if the ships had to move around the planet to fully eliminate the population and infrastructure.

True, but it makes sense to have to destroy the infrastructure and population together, since people will hunker down in bunkers. And even though the planet rotates, I'd like to see the ships have to target cities. I mentioned it in another thread, but I would love to see refugee ships fleeing a dying planet.

I'd like to see a cool down timer of sorts, once a planet is bombed, there should be at least a minute or two until it can be colonized. Heck I've seen my colony ships land BEFORE the planet was done being bombed....

Yea I have seen that too.

I think culture is supposed to be an anti-take over measure but it doesnt always work it just slows you down.
