After playing the beta for awhile, I have come up with an idea that would work and would make things a lot easier for long distance travel from star to star, planet to planet. Also another idea that uses the home system capital and add a Imperial center.
1) I don’t know if this has been mentioned yet, but what if the game incorporated jump gates.
By jump gates I mean a way of travel with the current lanes system. The jump gates would act as a near instantaneous travel between other gates the player controlled. This would significantly lower the time it takes for ships to travel.
The gates could cost a lot of logistic slots to lower the total amount of them in the game, so only massively developed planets could have them. The gates can connect to any other gate no matter the location in the galaxy; this would also massively benefit trade ships for super long travel. And it would make reinforcing systems a lot easier in huge maps.
An example of this in use during combat situations, lets say you have a massive ship building world with a large new fleet that just got constructed is sitting there and 2 planets away is a jump gate, well one of your planets 2 stars away is under attack by a rival empire and the nearest reinforcement fleet is 4 planets away, however the planet under attack has a jump gate. So you send your new big fleet towards the closest planet with a jump gate while at the same time the closest reinforcement fleet is in route. Well when the big new fleet jumped there’s a slight delay, let’s say like 10 secs for them to travel by jump gate to the other jump gate. That main new fleet should arrive before that closest reinforcement fleet. This ability would make it easier for things like this to happen and to reinforce far distant planets.
2) The other would use the whole idea that they just removed of having a home planet per star. I liked this idea and it made things easier for huge empires with a lot of planets across stars to get a good chunk of their income instead losing a lot of it from distance. What my idea is is take that old system and add another thing to it, an imperial center. This would be your empires capital, not your systems capital. You could even incorporate the loss allegiance not just by the distance from the home world but by also the distance from the imperial capital world in terms of star jumps away and set it at a fixed number.
Like right now, a planet loses like 10% allegiance from being away from the home world per world away, to a minimum of like 25%. Well with the new Imperial center, that would be the same, except, and let’s say that each star past the imperial center star would start at 5% less allegiance.
So if a star was 2 stars away from the empires capital, it would be at 10% less base allegiance at the home world for that system, and the planets in that system would use the regular 10% loss thingy per planet distance from the home world in addition to the 10% from that stars home world being away from the imperial capital, of course down to the minimum.
The only requirement for the imperial capital it has to be on the home planet of a system.
These are some of my ideas for the game among many.
