Some of you are probably pondering the beta purchase due to the fact you have to buy the game now, from here, and for the full price, even though you are only getting a beta. I too was worried that I was being stupid by plunking down 50 bucks for a beta, even though I was really interested in the concept. That in mind I decided to do it, and I do not regret the decision. Despite it being a bit steep to have to pay 50 bucks for a beta I have to cite three reasons it is definitely worth it.
First and most importantly the game is damn fun. No it isn't full, you don't get multiplayer and you can only play with one race, but the one race is fully featured. The game is also everything that has been promised so far (but please allow open jumping, lol).
Secondly, great developer support. You are paying 50 bucks (that's 40.25 coca colas!) but you are supporting the game and making the final product better by signing up now because you are giving the developers more money (ahh karma) . I believe they show proper support for the customers too. They are on the boards, friendly, and seem very open minded towards fan influence.
Thirdly, the options for the game for the 50 bucks are good. You get the beta now, you get to download it when it comes out so you can play it IMMEDIATELY, and you get the boxed copy sent to you. It seems you can have your cake, my cake and eat it too.
In conclusion, if you are suffering from pre-purchase anxiety you may want to just go ahead and give it a shot. Yes you are committed and if you don't like the game you are a little screwed, but that is true with any game, only usually you can't have discussions with the developers to change the portions of the game you may not like as much. So click the back button and call your family and friends and tell them you won't be seeing them for a couple of days......oh and have fun.
