Fighters/Bombers should auto dock and auto deploy

Fighters/Bombers should auto dock when no enemies are around and auto deploy when enemies show up. Also when Fighters/Bombers are docked they shouldn't show up as pips on the left side of the screen. I'm almost of the opinion that Fighters/Bombers shouldn't be selectable at all; they should be completely automatic. The player controls the frigates and capital ships but not the little fighter/bomber ships. However, I think that is probably going too far.

oh, you should be able to control the fighters/bombers with two buttons (a dock button, and a deploy button), but otherwise their behaviour in a fight should be automatic. In addition, their first instinct should be to auto dock when no enemies are around and auto deploy when enemies show up.

its not really that important to me... I am just glad they dock now before the capital ship phase jumps...

mine seem to always autodock before leaving a system, sadly sometimes they dock through the back of the ship were there is no hanger entrance....

Is there an actualy point of having them dock?

Repair faster or something?

as far as docking before a jump

it wouldn't do to have the fighters/bombers in one system and the cruiser in another and i have had that happen

Well its important when phase jumping, if they don't your capital ship ends up at the next planet with no fighters/bombers until it can build some new ones. Otherwise I don't think there is a point to the dock/undock feature...

Yeah, I tell my bombers to dock while my capital is moving and they are to slow to catch the capital and it jumps with out them. I'd like the fighters and bombers to dock for my capitals, not the ones that are with my hangers, less time for them to reach their target!

I'd like the ability to right click the launch button.
Normal --> Stay launched or Docked
Rigth clicked --> Auto launch/dock

docking fighters cleans up the empire tree as well. As for fighters based on ships, I haven't had a problem with them not docking on jumpout in the newest patch.

Having fighters go to the docks when there are no enemies around for XX seconds, will be a lot more usefull, as well as more realistic.

You can, select the fleet/planet then click fighter button. You can choose to launch/dock the fighters and bombers seperatly. Which is pretty usefull when facing an enemy fleet with lot of fighters (keep your bombers at home for a while)

yes. I was trying to suggest that those buttons should be the only way to control the fighters/bombers. Everything else would be automatic. This would clean up the empire display on the left (no more pips for every little ship flying around).

actually if any arnt docked yet they get teleported into the ship

I would like to see this feature as well. What is the purpose for docking the ships for other than asthetic purposes and clutter clean up? They should dock for supplies, etc.

What if you need to focus all your bombers on a single target? if they were automatic theyd all go for a different target and they wouldnt kill a damn thing just weaken a bunch of frigates, dent a cruiser, and scratch a battleship.

Maybe they need to be able to assign your fighters and bombers into "fighter wings".. Kind of like a fleet, but with fighters and bombers that can dock.

I micro my bombers. Way more effective to have them go after specific targets. Either support the fleet, or go after softer support craft and utilize their speed. Would suck to lose that. It would cut down on micro to have them auto dock when no one is around. Its not a huge deal to have to...but it would be nice.

You defintely want to dock when you are vastly outnumbered with Flak frigates and you dont want to lose you ships unecessarily.

Fighters automatically target bombers first above everything else. In the event that bombers appear after the fighters have their first target, they'll kill the target and then switch to bombers, or you can tell them to attack bombers and they'll keep at it.

"Biggest threat" is pretty subjective when you think about it.

I always assume the biggest threat to be caps with higher lvls.
