Unofficial beta FAQ

If you think you got something that would fit in this unofficial FAQ, then start with a question and then the answer. Or someone else can answer it for you

1. General

Q: When will the beta start?
A: It will begin the 27th of march

Q: How do i get in the beta?
A: You will have to pre-order it, you can do so here https://www.sinsofasolarempire.com/store/

Q: How long will the beta submissions be open?
A: It will be open for about 1 week after the beta 1 starts. If you miss beta 1, you'll get another chance when beta 2 launches in a few months.

Q: How will I get the beta?
A: You will be able to to download it with the Stardock Central program and can be found here https://www.stardock.com/sdnet_login.asp and the key will be send to you by email

Q: Is there a non-disclosure agreement (NDA)?
A: No! You are free to post screenshots, commentary, and even make in-game videos

2. Tech

Q: Whats the requirement to play in the beta?
A: Minimum specs (in general) will be: 1.8 GHz processor, 512 MB RAM (1 GB RAM in Vista), and a 128 MB DirectX 9 3D video card

Q: If I pre order this game, will I be able to download the beta1 on another PC with High Speed, and then bring it home and install it on my PC?
A: With most products downloaded via Stardock Central, you can archive them, burn them, install them on an offline machine, then make a trip to the net machine and back to activate. I can't say for certain if that will be the exact case with sins, but it's a good probability. Note you do need to be able to install SDC on the net connected machine in order to do this

Q: What is the Shipping cost?
A: $5 to the US and $10 international. NOTE: THIS IS ONLY FOR WHEN THE GAME IS RELEASED, IN AUGUST 2007 No beta disc's will be shipping.

Q: What happens to my money when i pre-order?
A: The money will be stored and locked on your bank account until the beta is released

Q: Can I get the game in another language then english?
A: Stardock will only be selling the final version in English. Other language versions (French, Spanish, German, Italian and Dutch) may be made available after release via Stardock Central. This is all still pretty undetermined, however.

Q: How do i cancel my pre-order?
A: You can do that by emailling sales@stardock.com

3. Ingame knowledge

Q: What will I be able to do in the Beta?
A: The beta will allow you to play Skirmish only. Multiplayer will come in beta 2, that will launches in a few months.

Q: Will there be a demo as well?
A: Not for a while, if at all.

Q: Will I be able to play all sides?
A: For beta 1 players will only be able to play as, and against, the Trader Emergency Coalition. The other races will be made available as the beta progresses.

Yarlen, this is just a guess. But the fact you guys haven't put up new screen shots yet mean were close to the beta launch?

LOL, actually I have been out with a cold.

We're looking good for the beta this month gang. If nothing evil pops up, they'll be a formal announcement tomorrow that will set the date, etc.

If I start to projectile vomit, the beta's off.

How about just regular vomiting?

i think i have a mathmatic approach to this problem

projectile vomit = cancelled beta

normal vomit = delayed beta (estimate= 1/2 weeks)

cough= delay (1/2 hours)

feeling grotty = (half hour delay tops )

feeling fine = released on time

the actual mathmatics are so complex i cannot type them down before my keyboard melts!

Oh I see how it is, its allll about you and your vomit. Why should we be punished, becuase your tummy is a bit upset. Just kidding of course, but if you need someone to hold your hair lemme know, if it will keep the beta on shcedule that is

Well if they are going to announce the date tomorrow and they've stated that they won't release near a weekend and it's still looking good for this month that would probably mean they beta will be released next week on Monday or Tuesday or so....

I was thinking more along the lines of:

"Announcement: The Beta release date is.... yesterday. You guys were all too busy waiting for this announcement to notice

No luck there, quite a popular thread I see.

It would be funny if they set the date to yesterday, meaning that it would never be released unless we went back in time.
