I don't know why I do it. I don't know why I do a lot of things I do, though.
I have collections of stuff. Just stuff that I'll never use... stuff I wasted money on. This article is actually quite embarrasing and will make me sound like a spoiled brat, but I'm really not. I buy most of the stuff I have, and actually work for it, too. I'm going through a growing phase where I figure out how silly and foolish it was of me to collect all this STUFF.
Now, I believe every person is entitled to one thing they collect. Along with me, many women have a shoe fetish, and that's fine... as long as you don't have a bunch of other fetishes.
I have shoes. Shoes galore. Four pair of dressy shoes. Black corperate wear shoes, which I really like. They make me feel important. Three pairs of high heel, strappy shoes. White ones, which I haven't worn in years. Black ones, which I wore twice (both school dances) and silver ones which I just wore to prom. They'll never get worn again, except for dances, formal parties or weddings, unless I feel like getting really dressy for church or something. Sub total:4
Let's move on to closed toe shoes. I have a pair of retro, old school shoes, which rock. They're not genuine old school, but I don't know how many people have genuine old school shoes. I really like these shoes, and don't think I could part with them. Then I have my comfy shoes... They're adidas and I never tie them, just throw them on and off.. great for trips. Then I have superstars (no, I'm not a prep, just happen to like them and think they're comfortable)... red stripes, which are basically brand new. I have my leather "cats" which are great in winter. Along with these I have about 3 other pair that get worn once in a while. Sub total: 7
Then I have four pairs of boots, winter boots, english (riding) boots, western (riding) boots and work boots. I won't go into much detail, for I fear I'm boreding anyone who happens to read this enough anyway. Sub total:4
Let's check under my bed, and in the bottom drawer of my dresser. Yay, sandles! Let's see here. 5 pair of flip flops. Flip flops are amazing. Then I have about 8 other sandles. Good gracious, I really do have problems. Sub total:13
I have a grand total of 28 pairs of shoes Makes even me sick. The funny thing is, whenever weather permits I go barefoot. I love being barefoot. Sometimes I wish I had 3 pairs of shoes. One flip flop, one boot, one tennis. *sigh* But I like all my shoes.
I probably have as many chapsticks as I have shoes (no, not pairs, shoes). That's right. When I was about 12 I had this great idea that I was going to collect chapsticks. So now I'm stuck with all these nasty old chapticks that I don't use, but spent too much money on to throw away.
I have a crate with beads in it. They're amazing beads and tools to make jewelry and different things, but I haven't done that in a whlie... maybe that's what I'll do this afternoon.
I have a crate full of scrapbooking stuff that I haven't gotten to in a while.
I have a crate full of magazines, that I throw in there after reading.
Pens, pens galore. In 6th grade, I had a guy friend, probably my best friend at the time who had a pen fetish. Which seems really odd for a boy, but he always was odd. So I started collecting pens, almost in competition with him. I probably have 150 pens. Gel pens, ink pens, fountain pens, ball-point pens, metallic pens, pastel pens. Blah, blah, blah. They're finally starting to dry up, and I never got around to using a tenth of them. It was addictive though. Years later, I'm still buying pens I think are sweet. Ahh, obsessive.
Let's walk in my bathroom un momento. Ahh, drawers. Open the drawers, go on! Make up galore. And the funny thing is, I'm a simple looking girl, cute, but natural. I hardly wear more than foundation and mascara, which you would never guess by looking in my drawer. I mean, this shit is good to have once in a while, when I want to experiment, but jeepers, so much! Nailpolish, hair stuff, hair spray, gel, frizz ease, hair color, lotion, purfume, etc etc etc. I'm really not a girly girl at all, but I'm sounding like one in this article. It's just collections of crap, and I have to admit I hardly use any of it. Although I did paint my nails yesterday (black). I really don't use this stuff, except the hair stuff because I've got a 'fro if I don't. Good grief.
Clothes. I like all my clothes, and have a bunch of hand me downs, which I really like, thrift store stuff, and bargian buys. I don't spend a whole lot of money on my stuff. Some of it's very dressy, some is punkish, preppy(ugh! ugh! ugh! why?!?!?), sexy, etc etc, etc. You'll never know what I'll be wearing. But usually you can find me in jeans and my red sweatshirt.
Jewelry! Wow, lots of jewelry. I made a lot of it, but that doesn't make it easier to keep it all. Rings, bracelets, etc etc etc. The funny thing is, I rarely wear jewelry. Lately I've been wearing a hemp necklace or my dressy earrings from prom. I like matching shitty stuff with dressy stuff. The funny thing is, I really like my old clothes, the ragged stuff that I wear out, the torn jeans... it's all good, but these are so comfortable.
CDs... I have to admit, I love music. I paid to get bearshare and now I have a ton of songs on there. A collection, you might say, but it's alright because it's on my computer, but I have so many cd's also. Well, maybe 50, which isn't a lot, but it's all good.
I have Bibles... which is a good thing. I like different versions for different moods, etc. I have like 2 NIVs, I have NKJV, NLT, etc.
Other collections include, journals.. used, and blank, art stuff, stamps (no, not postage), stationary, etc...
Enough about my stuff, or rather, collections of stuff. I really need to get rid of a lot of it, but I figure, I spent good money on it, and I don't dislike it. I'm going through a growing phase and realizing that the store will still be there when I run out of something, and I don't need to store up on it. I never thought of it that way before, at least not consciously.
