Nothing more fun than the first few days on your new ship. You check in, get your bunk, and then are supposed to run around doing a check in sheet... I've yet to start on it... I actually had to bug my chief to finally be able to get it... It's one of those things that I knew where to go to get, but is 'rude' to do without a sponser or higher ranking person with you.... go go formalities!
Let me give you a brief insight into living on a ship... My rack is perfectly described as 'coffin' sized. Since I'm lucky enough to have the top rack.. of 3.. I have pipes above me.. basically RIGHT above me... It's a "sit up and bang your head against something" situation. I'm getting used to that though, the hardest part still right now is getting into the rack. Getting out is really easy since you just play monkey bars and your out, and getting out is a lot more important in truth than getting in, though I am normally happier getting in than when I'm getting out of it.
Plumbing is another thing that's currently being worked on. I was having a weird dream last night about being in a room that was flooding and swimming around in that room, and wake up to find out that my berthing is actually flooding! The head decided to back up and the floor was covered in about 3 inches and rising of water. Was fixed quickly once we all woke up and realised what was happening.. but was just a surreal situation.
Don't get me wrong though... Things may be a bit cramped, and some things might need some work on em.. but I'm still loving this life. They treat ya well even if they do oversalt the food a good bit.... and make you do inventories for your first few days on the ship.... *shudders* inventory....
